Calvary Baptist Academy will host the LHSAA state wrestling championships for at least the next two years in conjunction with the Shreveport Sports Authority, according to Cavalier Athletic Director Johnny Booty. "This is going to be huge for Calvary to be able to serve in this capacity," Booty said. "Our wrestling coach, Donnie Burton, is among the best in the nation, I feel and this will really bring attention to our school and this area of the state," Booty said. The 2011 state wrestling championships are scheduled to be held at Bossier City's CenturyTel Center on Feb. 11-12 and on Feb. 10-11, in 2012. Also bidding for the wrestling championships was Kenner's Pontchartrain Center, which hosted the event several times. According to SRSA executive director Mary Ann Tice, the wrestling state championships will bring in as many as 1,000 wrestlers. In addition to the state wrestling championships, the CenturyTel Center will also be home of the LHSAA state basketball championships for the next two seasons. |
