Alexander, Bachman join coaching staff

Calvary Athletic Director Johnny Booty officially announced Monday that Ronnie Alexander has been hired to serve as the new defensive coordinator for the Cavalier football program and John Bachman, Jr. will work side-by-side with Alexander on the defensive side of the ball for the upcoming season.

Some say that Alexander’s photo is scheduled to be right next to the word “defense” in the upcoming edition of Webster’s Dictionary, and they would probably not be that far off.

The new Calvary coach started playing football in Vivian for the North Caddo Rebels, but somehow ended up his senior year at Shreveport’s Woodlawn High School, where he played for the legendary A.L. Williams. He apparently impressed the socks off the Louisiana Tech coaches and was given a football scholarship to play for the Bulldogs.

While at La. Tech, he was selected Most Valuable Defensive Player his junior and senior years, Shreveport Collegiate Athlete of the Year and Kodak All-American his senior year.

After his collegiate career as a player, he went on to coach at Fair Park High School where the Indians played for the state championship against Tara of Baton Rouge in, what was then called State Fair Stadium.

From the prep ranks, Alexander moved on to coach at Northwestern State University and Northeast Louisiana University.

Alexander is probably most famous for leading the Evangel Eagles to several state championships through his development of one of the finest defense programs in the country.

Alexander served as head coach of the Eagles for one year, as well. His most recent job in the high school ranks was as defensive coordinator for the Loyola Flyers.

“I have admired Coach Alexander’s coaching abilities for many years,” Booty explained. “As a college and high school defensive coach, he is well-known as one of the best,” Booty said.

“He loves the kids and has a unique talent in inspiring the players. We are proud to have him at Calvary,” Booty said.

“John Bachman, Jr. will be a great asset to us as defensive assistant and special teams coach,” Booty said. “I have known John for years and believe him to be one of the best young coaches around.”

Like Alexander, Bachman also coached at Evangel under his father, John Bachman, Sr.

Both of the new Calvary coaches are instrumental in sending numerous high school players to the college and professional levels.

Calvary head football coach Bo Meeks is excited about the addition of the two new coaches to his staff. “Coach Alexander is one of the most respected men in our business. The knowledge and experience he brings on the defensive side of the ball are invaluable,” Meeks said.

“Coach Bachman is one of the top young defensive coaches in the game. He is very intelligent and has a great passion for coaching football. I am excited about the example these men will be for our student-athletes. They are both men of character and integrity and great leaders of young men,” Meeks said.
