Lady Cavalier soccer wins in New Orleans

Caroline Tullos scored twice and the Lady Cavaliers got goals from Rachel Vizza and Katie Jayde Cunningham Tuesday afternoon to defeat the state's No.4-ranked Ursuline Academy just as the Super Bowl parade began to honor the Saints in the Crescent City.

Calvary's young team went into the halftime break with a 3-2 lead over the Lady Lions and held on for a hard-fought win by 4-3.

"I have been coaching for 17 years with both boys and girls teams, select teams, high school teams and today's Lady Cavalier win ranks in the top ten of all those games I have coached," Calvary coach Shelley McMillian said on a crowded bus heading back toward Baton Rouge after the game.

"We were not even ranked and these young ladies knocked off one of the best teams in the state of Louisiana," McMillian explained.

"This team put their heart and soul into this win and it is one of the most exciting wins in my career," McMillian said. McMillian has won over 500 games as a prep soccer coach.

McMillian admitted that she would probably not get any sleep tonight with supervising both boys and girls soccer teams from Calvary. The two squads will be stopping in the state's capital tonight for some rest before the boys tackle back-to-back state champion Teurlings Catholic Wednesday in Lafayette.

The Lady Cavaliers will move on to play Neville in the quarterfinals at Calvary's Jerry Barker Stadium Monday at 4 p.m.
